Meet the children

Here are the current children for who we are looking for sponsors...

Meet: Jayne

Jane was born on 26th April 2002 and so is currently 4 years old. She was born in the village of Kanyangol in the North East Nyakach district of Kenya. Her father has passed away and she is currently living with her mother, Beatrice Akinyi. Unfortunately Beatrice is unwell, has no means of income and has unable to provide for Jane in even the most basic ways. Jane helps out at home by washing utensils but is too young to provide any help at the school. She has felt unhappy recently as she often goes without food until the evening. She enjoys singing and is part of the Sunday School Choir. She loves to go to school and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Meet: Martha

Martha was born on 14th November 2000 and so is currently 6 years old. She was born in the village of Kosanol in the North East Nyakach district of Kenya. Her father has passed away and she is currently living with her mother, Loice Anyango and her brothers and sisters in a semi-permanent structure near the school. Unfortunately Loice is unwell, has no means of income and has unable to provide for Martha and her siblings. Martha helps out at home by washing utensils but is too young to provide any help at the school. She misses her father very much but she enjoys singing and is part of the Sunday School Choir. She loves to go to school and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Christine is currently 9 years old. She was born on 28th March 1998 in the village of Kanyibana in the Nyanza district of Kenya. Her mother and father are both alive but her father is a polygamist and does not support his family. Her mother, who is the main breadwinner, was unfortunately attacked by robbers and badly injured. She has been left permanently disabled and is currently unable to provide for her family. Christine has therefore become very vulnerable and in need of basic care. Her mothers name is Rose Anyango. Christine helps out in the community by cleaning the church every Sunday and by working in the school garden. At home she helps by washing school utensils and crockery. She has been unhappy since her mother was attacked but enjoys being in school. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Ken was born on 20th February 1999 and so is currently 8 years old. He was born in the village of Kosano in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. Unfortunately, Ken was abandoned by his mother and father when he was young. He lives with his grandmother who also takes care of a number of other children. The family has no means of regular income and relies on the community for support. Ken is often hungry as the grandmother is unable to care for him adequately given her current means. Ken is also at risk as she is not able to provide a safe environment for him as he grows up. Ken helps out at home by taking care of animals and at the school he plays the drums in the choir. His best memories have a lot to do with food and he wants to be a driver when he grows up.

Peres was born 23rd March 1998 and is currently 9 years old. She was born in the village of Kanyibana in the North East Nyakach district of Kenya. She lives with her mother, Priscka Akinyi, and her other siblings in a semi permanent structure near the school. Her father has passed away. The mother is unable to provide for the children and Peres has become very vulnerable and has not been getting enough food and water to remain healthy. She helps out at home by keeping the house clean and fetching firewood and tries to assist the community by helping to look after the garden. She enjoys singing and Christmas day but misses her father very much. She wants to study so that she can be a teacher when she grows up.

Beatrice was born on 9th February 2001 and so is currently 6 years old. She was born in the village of Kokoth in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. Her father has passed away and she is currently living with her mother, Tania Owala and her brothers and sisters in a semi-permanent structure near the school. Unfortunately Tania is unwell, has very limited means of income and has been unable to provide for Beatrice and her many siblings. Beatrice helps out at home by washing utensils but is too young to provide any help at the school. She is sometimes unhappy when there is not enough food and she misses her father but she loves to go to school and wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

Mercy was born in 1998 and so is currently 9 years old. She was born in the village of Kokoth in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. Her mother has passed away and she is currently living with her father, Gideon Kwach, her step mother and other siblings. The family is large and has very limited means of income and Mercy’s needs have been neglected. It is unlikely she will be able to remain in school without a sponsor. Mercy helps out at home by washing utensils and fetching water and firewood. She supports the school in any fund raising activities and sings in the Sunday school choir. She misses her mother very much but she loves school and wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

Victor was born on 1st February 2003 and so is currently 4 years old. He was born in the village of Kokoth in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. His father has passed away and he is currently living with his mother, Elizabeth, his ailing grandmother and other siblings in very dilapidated conditions. The family is large and has very limited means of income and Victor’s needs have been neglected. Victor helps out at home by looking after the animals. He is too young to do very much at the school but he sings in the Sunday school choir. He loves his food and his school and wants to be a teacher when he grows up.

Judith was born on 25th July 2000 and so is currently 7 years old. She was born in the village of Kanyi Kwaya in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. Her father, Jacob and mother, Joyce, are both alive but the family is very large as they care for the children of Jacob’s first wife who has passed away. Jacob does not work and the family is destitute. Many of Judith’s basic needs are not being met and it is very unlikely that she will be able to continue at school with-out some support. Judith helps at home by taking care of the younger children, washing utensils and collecting firewood. She is very active in school events and sings in the Sunday school choir. She loves school and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Jacklin was born on 4th October 1998 and so is currently 8 years old. She was born in the village of Karabok in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. She lives with her ailing grandmother as her mother, Penina died when she was a toddler and her father left the village. The grandmother takes care of a number of other young children as well as Jacklin but is too ill to care for them properly or to provide for their basic needs. The family is destitute. Jacklin helps at home by washing utensils and collecting firewood. She is very active in school events and sings in the Sunday school choir. She misses her mother but she loves school and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Daisy was born on 4th June 1999 and so is currently 8 years old. She was born in the village of Kanyi Kwaya in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. She lives with her ailing mother as her father has recently died. The mother takes care of a number of other young children as well as Daisy but is unable to provide for their basic needs. Daisy is malnourished and consequently suffers from a skin problem which causes her much distress. Daisy helps at home by looking after the younger children, washing utensils and collecting firewood. She and sings in the Sunday school choir and helps out at school as much as she can. She misses her father very much. Daisy wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Briton was born on 24th May 2003 and so is currently 4 years old. He was born in the village of Karabok in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. He lives with his mother, Jennifer, and his other 6 siblings as his father has passed away. The family has no means of regular income and relies on the community for support. Briton is often hungry and is evidently malnourished and anemic. Briton is too young to help out very much at home or at the school but he sings in the Sunday school choir. He remembers his father and still misses him but he is very sure that he would have wanted him to be a pilot when he grows up.

Rael was born on 3rd April 1999 and so is currently 8 years old. She was born in the village of Koloo in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. She lives with her ailing mother, Mary, and seven siblings as her father has passed away. The family is living in very difficult conditions and relies heavily on the community for support. Mary is unable to provide for many of their most basic needs and Rael is often hungry. Rael helps at home with all the chores. She sings in the Sunday school choir and helps out at school but she is often hungry and is very happy when the family is able to get food to eat. Rael wants to be a nurse when she grows up.

Doris was born on 10th August 1997 and so is currently 9 years old. She was born in the village of Kosano in the North Nyakach district of Kenya. She lives with her mother, Benta Akoth, and her other siblings as her father has passed away. The family has no means of regular income and relies on friends for support. Doris is often hungry and is evidently malnourished. She is also not well protected in her current situation and has been subject to some abuse. Doris helps at home with all the chores. She sings in the Sunday school choir and helps out at school. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
