On 13th November, the Light House in Wimbledon was once again the venue for an excellent dinner event. During the course of the evening, by virtue of a raffle, an auction and private donations an amazing amount, in excess of £25,000 was raised. This sum, together with monies raised from other events earlier in the year puts us well on target to collect the £75,000 required to completely rebuild Rae Primary School, our current major project.
July 2011
In July 2011, during our annual Rafiki trip, we were able to open a new classroom at Magunga Secondary School. We had never thought about supporting a secondary school before because in some areas secondary education is supported by other sources. In Magunga this is not the case and nearly all the children from our sponsorship programme are going to this school.
March 2011
Our big project for 2011 was the building of 4 classrooms at Obingo Primary School. It is the most difficult school to reach in the district, with vehicles having to cross muddy rivers in the rainy season and risk becoming stuck. These days little motorbike taxis allow access within half an hour from the main road on a dry day – if you dare get on the back of one that is.
